LGBTQ+ Mindfulness Workshops

Come join a series of four virtual workshops led by a QTPOC mindfulness instructor. We will explore different tools to work with our internal experiences (including intense emotions), talk about what it means to be on a path of active healing, and be in a community that centers a contemplative life as a way to make sense and thrive in this oppressive world.
It is recommended, but not required, that participants attend every workshop, as each of them provide the tools we need for the next one. Please note Workshop #2 falls during spring break.
Workshop 1: Mindful breathing, the importance of attention and focus (April 8)
What does it mean to be disembodied as queer and trans folks? Reclaiming our bodies is a part of healing, but without compassion, we can end up perpetuating violence on ourselves. In this workshop, we’ll learn about cultivating our compassion through mindful breathing.
Workshop 2: Discerning between thoughts, feelings, and sensations (April 15)
In order to gently reclaim our bodies and our lives, we need to be able to differentiate our internal experiences as a way to respond in the most beneficial way. Dysphoria, shame, religious trauma, are some of the experiences queer and trans folks have to work with more than others. This workshop is about learning to discern our sense of self from our experiences. We will learn how to see these experiences as materials for our practice.
Workshop 3: Being with tension, cultivating insight, maintaining a regular practice (April 22)
Just like how we need to exercise to maintain our wellbeing, we also need to regularly practice mindfulness to keep a mind that is clear and aware. We will try out ways to learn into the discomfort our experiences, and learnt how tension can breed insight. If we can use every experience as material for practice, we can be unstoppable.
Workshop 4: Carrying it out to the daily and social life (April 29)
Walking meditation, eating meditation, social meditation, there are many ways to practice mindfulness. We will move beyond sitting and breathing, and explore how we can better apply our practice into many parts of our lives, so that someday there is no difference between practice and actual living. We will talk about self-care and collective-care and the importance of a community in our practice, and how that relates to collective liberation.
