Operations During COVID-19

Dear Students,

We hope that you have had sometime this last week and half to slow down, take a breath, unplug and rest. We know these last couple of weeks has raised a lot of anxiety and stress for many of us and that “social distancing” can make us feel isolated. As we transition tomorrow to online courses and virtual communication/ programming, we know there will be a huge learning curve for everyone, which will without a doubt add to already existing stress and anxiety. Please feel free to visit the Keep Learning website for support on navigating online learning. If you have any questions related to the university response regarding COVID-19 or how to take care of yourself, please visit this website for up to date information.

We want to let you know that the Pride Resource Center and the Pride Resource Center staff will continue to be here to support you through this time. Our programming and support services will look different, we will be sending updates as soon as we have them about the ways you can reach out, connect with us and gather in virtual community spaces. In the meantime, please feel free to email Dora ( dora.frias@colostate.edu ) or Maggie ( maggie.hendrickson@colostate.edu) if you need ANYTHING.

As we shift to function in this new space, we will work to communicate updates via our newsletter, Instagram and Facebook at much as possible. Please see a few updates below:

  • Following University guidance our physical space in the Lory Student Center will be closed effective immediately through the rest of the Spring Semester. We know that our physical space provides a safe haven for many of you, we are equally disappointed to not have our space to enjoy each other. All of us will miss hearing the random conversations that happen in the center, and at this point it is critical that we do our part to keep our community healthy.
  • A live chat option is now on our website, that you can use to reach us during business hours. Our Pride Student Staff and Professional staff will be responding to those messages.
  • Soon, you will be able to call our main line 970-491-4342 and reach either Maggie or Dora directly. We will let you know when that is available.
  • Our staff are some of the most creative and innovative people we know. We are already thinking through ways to provide you with community space and connection through Instagram Live, Video Chat options, Netflix watching parties etc. Again, stay tuned for more information.

Both of us (Dora and Maggie) in the last couple of days have experienced a wide range of emotions, anxiety, stress, sadness, confusion…. we have also found time to laugh and experience joy. Last week, it dawned on me that Queer and Trans folks have always had to create and navigate third world spaces. We have always had to be creative and innovative in the ways we create community, find chosen family and reach out to each other. I am confident that through this time, we will find ways to be with each other in intentional and meaningful ways. Please take care of yourselves and each other.

With Pride,

Dora and Maggie
