Gender Inclusive Housing

In our ongoing mission to provide housing that meets the diverse needs and interests of ALL students, we are proud to offer Gender Inclusive Housing (formerly known as All-Gender & Open Housing) in designated spaces across campus. Gender Inclusive Housing provides students with a community where roommates and/or suitemates of any gender can live together in a more integrated and inclusive environment.

These housing options are designed to support students who may face barriers in traditional binary gendered living experiences, including transgender, LGBTQIA+, nonbinary, and gender nonconforming students. Students across all identities are eligible to participate in our gender inclusive housing process, including allies to the LGBTQIA+ community and students who do not want gender to be a primary factor in choosing a roommate. Participation in Gender Inclusive Housing is entirely voluntary, and students must agree to the Community Guidelines to participate.

Gender Inclusive Housing exists in designated areas within the following halls:

  • Laurel Village-Alpine Hall
  • Braiden Hall (as part of Key Communities)
  • Laurel Village-Piñon Hall (as part of the Amplify Learning Community)
  • Summit Hall
  • Westfall Hall

To participate in Gender Inclusive Housing, please complete the following steps* :

  1.  Access the Residence Hall Application on the Housing Portal
  2. Add Gender Inclusive Housing as one of the Residential Learning Community options on your application.
  3. Complete the Gender Inclusive Housing Community Guidelines Agreement.

Amplify Learning Community

Amplify is a residential learning community at CSU made up of around 340 students who all have majors in the College of Natural Sciences. Through living with fellow science majors, students can study, connect, and make friendships with folks who are in their same first year classes and will be in the same major coursework throughout their undergrad.

Amplify has a sub-community called Amplify Pride – a partnership with the CSU Pride Resource Center.

Inspired by the concept of chosen family, this cohort will have the option to take a queer-centered 1-credit Freshman Seminar Course together, participate in Rams in Q’mmunity Mentoring Program, and get connected to our LGBTQIA+ science student org, oSTEM. Interested students can also take Intro to Ecology and participate in Queer Ecology research. This experience also provides optional opportunities for paid research positions, doing science with local queer youth, and the option to get funding to travel to the national oSTEM conference.

Amplify is located in one of the newest residence halls on  campus (in Laurel Village) that has been designed for science students with floor to ceiling whiteboards, a common study area, a classroom, and multiple study rooms.

Key Communities

The Key Communities are learning communities for first year, second year, and continuing students designed to honor the identities and strengths of each student to foster students’ transition to and through the University. The Key Communities are one of the most diverse communities on campus, with many of the students identifying as a student of color and/or first generation to college, who are committed to creating and nurturing inclusive environments that welcome, value and affirm the diverse identities of our students. This type of environment is created through student engagement in conversations, programs, and educational opportunities centered around diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice.

Key students participate in a Key Seminar course, which focuses on learning through experiences both in and out of the classroom. Key students also enroll in 2-3 of their first semester courses with a smaller group of Key students. Key students also have a Key Mentor to connect with throughout their experience as a student. Students can opt into taking a class facilitated by staff in the Pride Resource Center that focuses on gender, sexuality, and race/ethnicity as participants of Key.

Key Communities resides in Braiden Hall.
